ABOUT GARY HAYWARD
The man behind the camera
Hi I’m Gary T Hayward of GTH Photography, a self taught photographer inspired by the human condition. I aspire to create works of art that encourages discussion and allows for viewer interpretation. I believe that as a photographer and an artist, there are always new things to learn, new experiences to have, and new ways to push yourself. As an artist, I am on a constant journey of self discovery.
I love the process of finding places to photograph. Every place is a potential blank canvas that can be used to tell a story, or to convey various facets of the human experience. A complex idea or emotion can be explored in a hundred different ways, by simple, but small changes in lighting or framing.
Growing up, I was always curious about my environment and the people around me. I would always take my time to explore every new place we went, to see what was awaiting the adventurer in me. My artistic journey began as a toddler, and I would draw for hours, upon hours copying Looney Tunes cartoons with felt-tip pens. During my school years, I went further into pencil work and started to experiment with various artistic disciplines, later trying my hand at 3D Modelling and Digital Painting.
Having tried my hand at many, varied art forms over my life-time, I still hadn’t found my unique way of expressing myself as an artist and as a person. Driven to try and find a niche, I eventually found my way to photography after deciding to borrow my partner’s camera for a bout of experimentation. I was immediately taken by it, and was amazed by what I was able to achieve as a photographer.
The camera is the one tool that helps me to convey the story of my relationship with the world around me. My pieces are a hybrid of landscape & expressionism, and my first collection is a visceral experience that depicts various stages through my life.
